We would recommend the gardens at Marqueyssac for the extravagant topiary and the wonderful walk along the ridge with views of both Beynac and Castelnaud. " Vive l'internet !! Comme beaucoup d'autres personnes nous avons eu la chance de découvrir les appartements de "La Villa des Consuls" par internet. A notre avis, les appartements sont peut-être les plus confortables de Sarlat. L'appartement "Montesquieu" où nous logions avait 2 grandes chambres à coucher très confortables. Le reste de l'appartement est très spacieux et très bien aéré. En plus, la terrasse donne la chance de se relaxer en toute tranquilité. Si vous vous demandez dans quelle ville séjourner en Périgord, Sarlat devrait être votre choix car c'est la plus belle et elle se trouve à proximité de plusieurs autres sites à visiter. David, notre hôte a été d'une aide précieuse pour le choix des visites, restaurants, activités, etc..
En espérant revenir un jour dans ce merveilleux coin de pays... "

"What a sensitive use of such a beautiful historic building - a tribute to the owners' foresight, planning and taste. "Like many others, we found "La Villa des Consuls" on the internet and have been very impressed with the apartment and the hospitality shown by David and of course the wonderful sights around the old medieval town of Sarlat. We arrived in time for New Years Eve and through the internet David also arranged a booking for us at a restaurant nearby which was "over and above the call of duty". We would love to revisit "La Villa des Consuls" again and will certainly recommend it and this beautiful area of France."

" Our stay in November 2002 at La Villa des Consuls was everything we had wished for and more !!! When we first arrived in the apartment, we wondered whether the rate we had agreed was per night and not per week ! It was absolutely spotless and in a prime position for exploring Sarlat and the beautiful surrounding countryside. There was an extremely welcoming bottle of wine from David and he is literally a "Fountain of knowledge" about the Dordogne. You can ask him anything ! He was incredibly helpful and a very friendly man too!
I have undoubtedly bored eveyone I know about our time in Sarlat, and would challenge anyone to find better apartments for a base to explore the wonderful Dordogne. We shall definitely be returning !!! "

"I am happy to recommend staying at Villa Consuls in Sarlat. My family spent a week in the comfortable, clean "Montaigne" apartment. The owner/manager was extremely helpful and friendly. He made us feel most welcome and was always available to answer any questions or to help in any way. He was also very open to suggestions and seems dedicated to ensuring that his guests have a really great stay. The apartment was a great home base in this beautiful town and region. From the comfortable sunny terrace, to the central location, this was a perfect place to stay. We could walk everywhere in town - several good boulangeries for fresh breakfast croissants, grocery stores, a wide choice of restaurants and shops, and a lively twice-weekly market. Sarlat is not only beautiful but also a good base for exploring the Perigord. Prehistoric caves, medieval towns and castles, and recreational activities on the Dordogne are all only a short drive away."

"Having decided to holiday in France without taking the car, Sarlat proved to be the perfect location. We chose the Montaigne apartment which was extremely confortable and in an ideal location overlooking the town and convenient to both shops and restaurants. David was the perfect host, meeting us off the train from Bordeaux, giving us advice on the best restaurants ( I highly recommend the Four Seasons) and arranging hotels in Bordeaux for our return journey. Sarlat is a fairytale town, perfect for sightseeing and unwinding. As our main interest was walking, the surrounding countryside, particularly around the river Dordogne was breathtaking and a wealth of history and folklore. We followed the Grande Randonnee maps which brought us to the heart of the countryside and and were very easy to follow. Altogether a memorable experience."

"My wife and I can't recommend these services apartment highly enough. We are francophile Americans who visit France every chance we get, and our week-long stay at La Villa des Consuls in September 2001, was one of our best French experiences. To begin, they are located in the heart of a lovely, bustling, historic market town (Sarlat). I mean "the heart", literally. Our first-floor balcony looked directly down onto the main street of town, so we were no more than a few feet away from almost anything (bread shops, cafés, restaurants, stores, museums). On the other hand, it was perfectly quiet in the evening; like all French provincial towns things are pretty dead after 8 p.m. (This wouldn't apply in July an August when the tourist invasion occurs.)
Sarlat itself is a wonderful place. Nearly every building in the center of the city is hundreds of years old, and in recent years they have nearly all has been preserved and restored. It's like living in a Middle Ages town with none of the inconveniences of the Middle Age -- since inside these old buildings one finds electricity, modern plumbing, telephones, new furnitures, ... That certainly applies to La Villa des Consuls complex. It may be a very old building, bur everything inside is brand new. All the conveniences that you need to live very comfortably are available.
To top it off, David Lascoux, the owner, and his wife are wonderful people -- cordial, eager to help, and always available. They live in the same building, are always around, and deal satisfactorily with any question in just a few minutes.
We loved our experience -- the best proof is that at the end of our stay we reserved our apartment one year of time to the next September, but this time for two weeks ! We can't wait to get back.

was great! Very roomy, very clean, very comfortable, and very nice decor.
It was my first time renting an apartment instead of a hotel room, and I
was a bit hesitant. David, the owner, answered all of my questions, and
was very nice and accommodating as well. He showed us around the apartment
when we got there, helped us to find parking, gave us a terrific suggestion
for dinner, and let us know how to get ahold of him if we needed anything.
Little did we know we would. We were staying at the apartment when the
Sept. 11th tragedies occurred, and David was so nice and helpful to us.
Sarlat is beautiful, and I wish we would have stayed in the apartment for
the whole week. The location is great, and the deck is really nice, with a
great view. I would definitely stay there again."
